The Table Tops Project

Using downtown Baton Rouge’s public marketplace as a backdrop, local student artists from diverse backgrounds will create colorful, hand-painted table tops to reflect downtown Baton Rouge’s unique culture. The project will be overseen by a local art teacher who will be on hand to help students bring their vision to life. These new table tops will be used daily in Main Street Market and will replace the ones currently in the Market. The current table tops, represented at right, were created three years ago and will be auctioned off to help defray the costs of the current project and other BREADA programs.

Purpose of the Project

 * Offer children a summertime educational opportunity that builds their talent and self esteem
 * Expose kids to the importance of the local farming community and to supporting Buy Fresh, Buy Local
 * Increase the understanding of the impact that a public marketplace has on its community
 * Enhance the environment of Main Street Market by showcasing children’s art and talent
 * Expand community awareness of the science of sustainable agriculture Advance diversity in our marketplace through
    artistic expression
